‘BROWN BAG REUNION’ THURSDAY BRINGS BACK FOND MEMORIES OF OLD SCHOOL DAYS AND LIVING, GROWING UP IN SOUTH MUSKOKA

GRAVENHURST — When one thinks of a “Brown Bag Reunion,” it could conger up a range of memories — many stemming from trips to the government store where paper bags and brown wrapping paper were a part.

Fortunately tomorrow’s GHS Brown Bag Reunion at Gull Lake Rotary Park is no longer like that which could only kindle too often unpleasant episodes of youthful indiscretion.

Still everything is on the picnic table at these annual get-togethers of old friends and colleagues from 11:30 a.m. to  2 p.m.

Good, bad … and great stories – many still unshared.

In past years previous gatherings, which began in 2018, they’ve led to extended post-reunion engagement in neighbourhood backyards.

Jane Templeton, who grew up in Bala and rode the school bus to Gravenhurst (where she now lives, has been running the popular summer socials started by Betty Allen and attended now by three dozen and more local and visiting guests who come from Oshawa, Orillia and the GTA among many destined for an old home “day” visit.

Templeton says “come to reminisce and share memories. Bring your lunch, or enjoy delicious food from one of our local establishments.”

She also suggests photos or whatever you want to share.

“Tell your friends and bring them along.”

There’s plenty of parking at the park or the lot off Philip Street.

Also, “one of our GHS members has come up with a wonderful idea. Chris (Clairmont) Jones has suggested we develop a way of remembering some of our Muskoka folks who have passed on.

“Like Bev Montgomery,  Jeff Draper, Bruce Merkley, Doug Corbett, Brenda and Ted Sykes … who have left us within the past couple of years.

“I will bring a book for us all to write comments and the names of anyone you would like to remember.  Please take a minute to sign and acknowledge.

“As well, please sign the guest book adding any one you think would like to be on our contact list.”

Templeton (705-687-3166) added: “I’m thrilled that several Bracebridge High School friends will be joining us on Thursday to reminisce and remember.”

Brown Baggers have enjoyed years of get-tegethers, including this group back in 2018.
A team photo of some of those present Aug. 23 for the Brown Bag Lunch showed some older, but still smiling faces.
