MARY STREET RE-OPENS AFTER OVERHEAD HYDRO WIRES CLIPPED EARLY TUESDAY IN GRAVENHURST

GRAVENHURST — An all-day and overnight road closure here Tuesday left already re-routed traffic off Bay Street looking for alternative streets around the downtown.

The Town of Gravenhurst closed multiple streets following after a transport clipped overhead wires early in the morning.

Mary Street North was closed from Bay Street to Brown Street.

And Hughson Street traffic was restricted between John and Sarah streets.

The closure was required to repair overhead wires and poles that were damaged.

There were no injuries.

Motorists and pedestrians possible were asked to avoid the area.

Repairs are not expected to be complete until later in the evening.

Hydro crews were seen still on the scene after 6 p.m.

Elexicon and other utility service providers undertook the work.

All streets re-opened this morning.

The repairs follow some lingering low-lying wires from the recent ice storm.

And a difficult detour that directs heavy traffic through residential neighbourhoods – including some large delivery trucks and transports that may have neglected using the James Street bypass and taking the long route around to service customers on or around the Muskoka Road main street commercial district.

And the streets around it weren’t open until Wednesday morning.
