TWO YOUNG DRIVERS FACE STUNT DRIVING CHARGES ON HWY. 60 IN HUNTSVILLE

HUNTSVILLE Two young drivers arrested for stunt driving face identical charges in police stops a week apart on Hwy. 60 after clocking in at almost exactly more than 50 km/h over the limit.

On Sunday June 8, around 4:37 p.m., an officer was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 60 when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

The officer confirmed the speed to be 122 km/h in a posted 70 km/h zone.

As a result, Rajkaran Grewal, 24, of Winnipeg was charged with: Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed, contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

And on Monday June 16, at 4:43 p.m., an officer also conducting similar traffic enforcement on Highway 60 observed another vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

That driver was recorded travelling 123 km/h also in a posted 70 km/h zone.

Connor Reid, 25, from Burks Falls was charged with: Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed, contrary to Section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Police say Possible Penalties Upon Conviction:

Fines: A minimum fine of $2,000, and a maximum of $10,000.

Demerit Points: Six demerit points will be added to your driving record.

Licence Suspension: A first-time conviction can result in a license suspension of one to three years.

Jail Time: Up to six months in jail is a possibility for a first offense.

Driver Improvement Course: A mandatory driver improvement course.

Insurance Costs: A conviction may impact your insurance premiums

Long-term Consequences: Subsequent convictions will result in progressively harsher penalties, including potential lifetime license suspension.

The two young drivers were caught travelling at 122- and 123 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.
