SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES WITH THE ORILLIA SILVER BAND MUCH MORE MUSIC THAN PLAYER PIANIST

ORILLIA — Elwy Yost won’t be there, but for those who remember the late great TVO presenter and commentator you can channel his celluloid presence tomorrow night.
The Orillia Silver Band is highlighting movie clips as part of its concert called Movies and More
Which means more than a player pianist.
And they’d love to invite you to an evening of musical entertainment from the world of the cinema.
June 7 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Centre in Orillia.
Tickets are available from the Orillia Silver Band website www.orilliasilverband.com and at the door.
“This will be a fun multimedia concert with musical selections that should appeal to everyone’s taste in entertainment” says Neil Barlow, the band’s music director.
Selections include such favourites as highlights from the recent James Bond remake of “Casino Royale”, the beautiful love theme from “Out of Africa” and the towering overture by John Williams to the 1970’s western “The Cowboys”.
The band invites you to enjoy the musical skills of some of its own soloists on this evening as well. Trumpeters Robin Watson and Debbie Silverthorne will play a great arrangement of a Count Basie tune called Duet. And Michele McCall, the band’s flugelhornist, will present Winton Marsalis’ version of the Hoagy Carmichael tune Skylark.
Other cinematic fun included the main theme from the ever-popular film Forrest Gump, the flying theme from E.T., and the rousing victory theme from the Rocky series. Another bit of John Williams brilliance is the march from the war-comedy film 1941.
Beyond the music itself, the concert will include simultaneous projected pictures and video clips of movies where the music was used. This will take us all down “memory lane” as we remember the thrill of the complete cinematic experiences.
Please put this exciting concert on your calendar. Your help and encouragement of the band is always greatly appreciated!
See you soon at the movies.
