VEHICLE ROLLS AWAY DURING POLICE STOP

BRACEBRIDGE — A novice driver whose vehicle rolled away from him after he was stopped by police Saturday, faces numerous charges under the Highway Traffic Act, including being impaired by drugs.

A novice driver who left his vehicle in gear while being stopped by police faces a charge of being drug impaired.

Provincial police at Bracebridge say they arrested an impaired driver thanks to the efforts of a concerned member of the public.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on April 13, OPP received a call from a driver regarding a suspected impaired driver after he was witnessed swerving and striking a curb.

Police responded and were able to locate the suspect vehicle on Cedar Lane north of Taylor Road.

The driver stopped his vehicle, but forgot to put it in park.

While officers were speaking with him, the vehicle began to roll away. The vehicle was stopped and safely put into park.

The male driver was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by a drug.

Charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle under the Criminal Code, Operating without Insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, Novice Driver with the Presence of Drug and Driving in Contravention of Conditions under the Highway Traffic Act is 24-year-old James Clarke, of Bracebridge.

He is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on May 7th 2019 to answer to his charges.
