DOUBLE DOUBLE FOR DEFENDING GHS BOYS JR., SR. HOOPS TEAMS AT GBSSA FINALS FRIDAY

COLLINGWOOD — The little school that did and still could.

That’s the GHS Junior and Senior boys’ basketball teams.

After sweeping the Muskoka-Parry finals last week in Gravenhurst against larger local schools, both advanced to the Georgian Bay championships here Friday in Collingwood in their school division.

And the defending champions did it again.

Winning both finals — one more time.
The Juniors had an easier go — first beating Barrie’s Romeo Dallaire, 75-41; and then doubling host Our Lady of the Bay 60-30.
Sadly that completes their season as there are no provincial finals at their level.

But the Seniors, who won their way to the championship with a comfortable 68-39 score over Elmvale, faced stiff competition to advance.
Their 54-43 outcome on the home court of the Our Lady of the Bay was a nail-biter, which was close until the very end when the Gryphons showed why they are the defending champions in stretching out an exciting 7-point victory for the visitors.
Now the Seniors move on to OFSSA Mar. 3-5 in Woodstock

The school’s Instagram account lauded their double double wins.

“HUGE shout out to the players and coaches: Congratulations on this incredible journey!!!”
