BEARS LOOK FOR WIN SATURDAY AT HOME TO INNISFIL AFTER THREE-GAME SLUMP

Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.comBRACEBRIDGE — The Bears head in to weekend play hoping to erase three losses following a stunning 5-4 upset last Friday in Alliston, which ended the division leader’s 28-game undefeated streak.

Muskoka hosts Innisfil Saturday at 7 p.m. and are in Stayner Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

That after a 5-0 home loss last Saturday to Penetang, before dropping a close one 2-1 the next afternoon to visiting Midland in overtime — with Jacob Budney scoring his team-leading 10th goal of their inaugural return to Jr. C hockey season.

A rare Wednesday night mid-week homer this week at their Muskoka Lumber Community Centre also resulted in a 6-0 loss to the Orillia Terriers.

Attendance was 402 Sunday and 245 Wednesday.

The Bears remain at the bottom of their eight-team pack in the North Caruthers Division with three wins and 26 losses. They have 11 games left in the regular season before the playoffs, which pit top and bottom teams and second and seventh etc.

Budney is the team’s leading scorer with 10 goals, followed by brothers Jacob and rookie Tyson Jennings with eight goals each.

Jacob Budney, Muskoka’s leading scorer, had his 10th goal last Saturday against Penetang. The Bears are counting on him and brothers Jacob and Tyson Jennings (8 goals each) to keep up their scoring touch against Innisfil Saturday night at home at the MLCC. Game time 7 p.m.
