GRAVENHURST — A thief took advantage of overnight snow early today, stealing cash in a downtown business break-in.
Police are investigating a break and enter January 14 on Muskoka Road South near Phillip Street.
They say that between 4:15 and 5 a.m. an unknown suspect smashed a window, gained entry and stole “a quantity” of cash.
“They broke the front window (facing the parking lot) and went to the cash counter and took the money,” a worker at Pedi N Nails said this afternoon.
He said they were in and out fast — “within three minutes.”
And also that it was hard to track the culprit footprints because of the large continuing overnight snowfall.
Police told him that it appeared to be a female suspect.
The pedicure business remained open today during the mounting storm.
A police video (link below) shows the hooded and masked person carrying some kind of tool in their right hand and tripping over a wheeled stool while breaking in.
Police ask that anyone with video surveillance in the block including Muskoka Road South between Phillip Street and James Street, and John Street South in Gravenhurst to check for possible footage of the suspect(s).
If you recognize the involved suspect you can call 1-888-310-1122; or should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at crimestopperssdm.com.
It’s the second break-in and theft in that area in recent weeks.
