MUSKOKA CONCERT BAND AND ELDERBERRIES CHOIR SHARE UNITED CHURCH STAGE NOV. 9 IN GRAVENHURST FOR ‘ECHOES OF CONFLICT’ CONCERT
GRAVENHURST — War and peace are themes being marked at a combined Remembrance Day concert Saturday afternoon, Nov. 9, at the United Church in Gravenhurst.
The annual Muskoka Concert Band musical honour that week will this year features the Elderberries Choir, directed by Louise Jardine.
It starts at 2 p.m.
“‘Echoes of Conflict’ focuses on music that helps us reflect on the impacts of war on soldiers, countries, communities, and families,” says MCB conductor Fran Harvey.
“You will hear some more familiar selections as the band plays Marta Keen’s well-known piece “Homeward Bound,” J. William Middendorf II’s “Old Ironsides March,” and the choir will sing Jay Unger’s beloved “Ashokan Farewell.”
The Elderberries will also perform “Inscription of Hope,” by Z. Randall Stroope.
And the band will perform the engaging work “They Shall Run and Be Free,” a programmatic piece by American composer and arranger Brant Karrick, which includes the spiritual “Oh Freedom.”
The band and choir will share the church stage to perform John Williams’ “Hymn to the Fallen” from the motion picture “Saving Private Ryan” and Canadian composer Eddie Graf’s arrangement of the Second World War songs called “Vera Lynn Medley.”
They look forward to having you join them at this important time of year as we remember together and reflect on the ‘Echoes of Conflict.’
Admission is by donation at the door with a suggested donation value of $20.
