POLICE BUSY ACROSS MUSKOKA WITH ACCIDENT LAST NIGHT AND 3 IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES
MUSKOKA — Police are keeping a closer eye on the roads this Civic Holiday Weekend as they contend with a spate of impairments, arrests, charges and an accident.
Three more incidents have led to arrests and charges against area drivers.
Altercation in Huntsville leads to arrest in Gravenhurst
On Monday, July 29th, at 1 a.m. they responded to concerns from members of the public after a male, who was potentially impaired, took off in his vehicle after engaging in a physical altercation in Huntsville.
Police located the vehicle on Highway 11 South in Gravenhurst, where they stopped the vehicle.
Daniel Thomas, 45, of Orillia was charged with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a), Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b), Failure to Comply with Release Order CC 145(5)(a) and Driving While Under Suspension HTA 53(1).
Thomas is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on August 20, 2024, to answer charges.
Suspicious vehicle stops in front of Bracebridge home
Near the end of that day, at 11:25 p.m. a Bracebridge resident called 911 with concerns about a vehicle that stopped near their residence on Manitoba Street.
Police arrested and charged 47-year-old George Faetz, of Muskoka Lakes Township, with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a), Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b) and Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition CC 92(2).
Faetz is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on August 27, 2024, to answer his charges.
Suspected medical event leads to impair driving charge
The next day, on July 30, at 8:45 a.m. police were called to the parking lot of a convenience store on Taylor Road in Bracebridge regarding the driver of a vehicle who was possibly having a medical event.
Officers responded and after an investigation charged 30-year-old Douglas Sweeney, of Bracebridge, with Operation While Impaired-Drug CC 320.14(1)(a) and Operation While Prohibited CC 320.18(1)(a).
He was transported to hospital where he was treated and released.
Sweeney will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on September 3, 2024 to answer to charges.
Emergency vehicle turn last night leads to crash on Hwy. 400
Last night, police responded a multi-vehicle collision that caused an hours-long closure of Highway 400 in Georgian Bay Township.
At 10 p.m. police, along with Georgian Bay Fire Department and Muskoka EMS responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a collision on Highway 400 near Lake Joseph Road.
Witnesses reported that a northbound vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in the southbound lanes causing a collision with another vehicle.
The investigation revealed that the 20-year-old driver of the car had inappropriately attempted to utilize an emergency vehicle turn around and lost control. He has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
