MUSKOKA FIRE BAN LIFTED — RATING NOW ‘MODERATE’ DISTRICT-WIDE

MUSKOKA — As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has lifted Muskoka’s the Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) that has been in place since June 1.

With this announcement, the Muskoka Association of Fire Chiefs has moved the fire danger rating in #Muskoka to moderate and lifted the fire ban.

It may take up to 24 hours for all signs in to reflect the change.

Under the moderate fire danger rating, no daytime burning is allowed.

Small fires are permitted after 6 p.m.

But you must have adequate tools and water to extinguish the fire if the need arises and you cannot leave your fire unattended.

Fireworks are permitted in accordance with municipal bylaws.

Temperatures are forecast to be cooler and more summer-like the rest of the week with temperatures remaining in the mid-20s, but nothing reaching 30-degrees.

As of 18:22 last night, there were currently 31 active wildland fires in the MNRF’s Northeast Region as of Tuesday, according to the The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services.

Of these, 1 is not under control, 1 is being held, 9 fires are under control and 20 are being observed.

There were no new fires confirmed in the region yesterday.

They say the fire hazard is varies from low to high throughout the majority of the Northeast Region.

Areas of Bancroft and Renfrew are showing an extreme hazard.
