TWO CHARGED AFTER ASSAULT IN HOME ON FIRST STREET SOUTH IN GRAVENHURST

GRAVENHURST — A weekend police call in which several people were assaulted in a south end home here has led to two people being charged.

OPP say that on Jan. 28, at 9:15 p.m., officers responded to an emergency call from a resident on First Street South.

They say the caller fled after a person entered his home, harassed several people inside and assaulted him, to call for help.

Officers arrived, located and charged 44-year-old Charmaine Holtz, of Gravenhurst, with the following:

  • Assault with a Weapon CC 267(a)
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm CC 264.1(1)(a)
  • Mischief CC 430(1)(a)
  • Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose CC 88
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm CC 91(1)
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order CC117.01(1)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation CC 733.1(1)

Holtz was held for a bail hearing and will next appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Feb. 9, 2023.

Police have also charged 40-year-old Daniel Murphy, of Orillia, with Obstruct Peace Officer CC 129(a) and Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest CC 403(1)(d) as a result of his involvement in the incident. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on March 16, 2023 to answer to his charges.

A woman from Gravenhurst and man from Orillia have been charged after a police call on First Street in Gravvenhurst the night of Jan. 28.
