DRIVER ALMOST GOES INTO DRINK AT PORT CARLING LOCKS FRIDAY AFTERNOON
PORT CARLING — A driver could have landed in the Indian River here at the locks yesterday were it not for bystanders, say police.
On Friday Sept. 2 at 4:54 p.m. officers responded to a report of a vehicle that struck another motor vehicle and a flower pot on Lock Street west — on the hill street near the town mural and on the Muskoka Lake side of the locks which enter Lake Rosseau.
OPP say the single vehicle could have been in danger of entering the water if concerned bystanders hadn’t stepped in.
As a result a 70-year-old woman, from Oakville, was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).
Her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded.
She is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Sept. 27.
Police said later in response to further questions that bystanders made sure she didn’t continue to drive, but still won’t divulge the woman’s name.
