BRACEBRIDGE HOSPITAL WING HIT WITH COVID OUTBREAK TUESDAY, VISITATION RESTRICTIONS IN PLACE

BRACEBRIDGE – Another hospital unit has been hit by a late summer COVID outbreak.

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare said this afternoon that visiting to the north wing inpatient unit at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) site has been suspended after a unit-specific outbreak was declared in collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

Testing of patients and staff continues to occur as part of outbreak management protocols, and enhanced cleaning practices are underway to limit spread.

“For safety, visiting restrictions are currently in place for only the north wing at the SMMH site and we appreciate the community’s patience at this time,” CEO Cheryl Harrison said in a release Tuesday.

This follows a recent COVID outbreak at the ICU at Huntsville hospital site.

The north wing of the SMMH in Bracebridge has been hit with a COVID outbreak as of Tuesday, Aug. 30. Visitation restrictions are in place.
