GRAVENHURST — Summertime and the livin’s easy on the lakes.
Muskoka’s No. 1 season is a hotbed of entertainment again as musicians, artists and their fans gather once more like they did — three summers ago.
Among the many opportunities for the two to pair up is ‘Music at the Museum,’ the Muskoka Discovery Centre’s series that’s just past the halfway mark.
Rama’s Ronny Douglas opened it in July with a mix of original and indigenous songs.
And what better way to keep the theme on the lakes and rivers than Neil Hutchinson and George Axon last Wednesday.
The Bracebridge environmentalist and retired jingle writer performed a one-hour set list of familiar and new tunes awash in water, including Lake Song, Winter Rain, Christian Island and a great original one entitled Paint the Shield.
There were also a couple of Gordon Lightfoot’s hits Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and the Canadian Railroad Trilogy tied appropriately the Muskoka Lakes ships and train history.
Music at the Museum continues Aug. 10 with the always entertaining Jack Hutton, a piano and ragtime staple and storyteller who performs regularly on the Segwun and Wenonah II.
The series wraps up with local classical virtuoso Kyung-A Lee, of Huntsville, also on piano Aug. 24. Both are 3:30 p.m. performances.
Tickets are available here online or at the Muskoka Discovery Centre.
