THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY: I WON AGAIN AT LEGION’S MONTHLY DINNER

Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.com

GRAVENHURST — You betcha Barb Weismiller will be at next month’s TGIF dinner at the legion.

Not just for the pork cutlet — or because she loved last night’s chicken parmesan for which she and Wayne Colton had the first two tickets.

And because she wants to help the Royal Canadian Legion Brach, which has suffered through a rough patch because of COVID.

Or because last month they enjoyed the ribs — and she won a weekend getaway at the new Muskoka Bay Resort Hotel.

But because I drew her #01 ticket for a pair of seats to next Tuesday’s afternoon’s matinee preview performance of The Exquisite Hour play at the Opera House.

When legionnaire host Ted Hudson announced Weismiller’s number she let out a hearty laugh. Only those who were at last month’s dinner got the joke.

The other pair were won by 10-year-old Gihana Quesnelle.

So count on Weismiller and Colton to be at Branch #302 for the third Thursday of August. He hopes rubbing shoulders with her will bring him good luck.

Friday nights will never be the same for her and the 71 others who enjoyed the pleasant dinner outing. That’s a few more than June. And legion members hope to have even a few more in four weeks.

They’re big fundraisers for the branch.

Check their flyers and call early so they can order enough more pork cutlets.

Weismiller certainly will.

The legion’s monthly TGIF dinners are growing in popularity and are a great way to get out and to support Branch #302.
Barb Weismiller can’t believe her good fortune after receiving the winning prize from Ted Hudson a second month in a row.
Meaghan Davidson serves Wayne Colton who hope rubbing shoulders will with friend Barb Weismiller will bring him good luck in August. Or was it the other way around last month and this?
Terry Coles had his hands full dishing out heaps of chicken parmesan and spaghetti for $20 a serving. Next month he and the branch volunteers will be preparing plates of pork cutlets.
Pam McDivitt and friends from Pine Ridge were among the 72 who sat down to a delightful dinner last night.
