TAKE BACK THE FLAG CANADA DAY WITH 155 EVENTS ACROSS MUSKOKA

MUSKOKA — Across Muskoka there are almost as man events marking Canada’s 155th birthday as there years of our amazing history.

So get out your red and white and “take back the flag.”

Take back the flag – proudly wave and display the flag for all that is good about Canada at your home, on your street or at events across Muskoka today..

GRAVENHURST:

In Gateway to Muskoka Gravenhurst the fun begins at 11 a.m. at Gull Lake Rotary Park with a barbecue and cupcakes.

A feature is the new Muskoka ukulele band on the Barge.

Bethune House also always has a cake and lemonade as part of their homage to Dr. Norman Bethune.

Out in Walker’s Point there action begins at 2 p.m. and at night is one of the largest fireworks displays around the Muskoka Lakes. Check the Wenonah II for last minutes tickets to sail out and see the blasts at 10 p.m.

BRACEBRIDGE:

The Heart of Muskoka festivities are centred on downtown during the day.

Live music:

Memorial Park Bandshell

  • 2-3 p.m. Muskoka Concert Band
  • 3-4 p.m. Metis and French Canadian Music with the “Red Hot Stove Pipe Band”
  • From 4-8 p.m. at a stage further down Manitoba Street:
  • 4–5 p.m. – Liam Kearney
  • 5-6 p.m. – Emma Clendenan
  • 6 – 7:15 p.m. – “Big Folk” with Neil and George
  • 7:15 – 8:30 p.m. – “Kitchen Party with The Mighty Lopez”

Bracebridge Wharf:

  • 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. – Briar Summers
  • 8:30 – 9:45 p.m. – Metis and French Canadian Music ” Newfoundland to the Bayou” with the “Red Hot Stove Pipe Band”
  • There’s also a Scavenger Hunt featuring all-Canadian food
  • And fun and games including: pickleball, corn hole and giant board games
  • Street vendors, service groups and a 60-foot dining table will line the streets and live demonstrations from Annex and Una will happen during the day.
  • A fun feature will let you take your selfie on the new selfie “ART” wall being launched.
  • At night Rotary’s huge fireworks at the Falls are a highlight of the day.

HUNTSVILLE:

Up at Muskoka Heritage Place from 9 to 11 a.m. there’s live music, pioneer demonstrations, Lions Club food and trips on the steam train.

Then activities moved to Rivermill Park 1-6 p.m. for a full afternoon of fun celebrations.

Fireworks are still scheduled to take place at 10 p.m. tonight, over Hunter’s Bay. However, if the weather changes and fireworks require rescheduling, updates will be communicated on the Huntsville / Lake of Bays Fire Department facebook page.

MUSKOKA LAKES:

Canada Day kicks off with the opening of the Lock Street pedestrian mall, which will see the street closed for the summer. From noon to 2 p.m. there’s a barbecue, live music and life-sized board games.
