GRAVENHURST HAS MUSKOKA’S LOWEST PER CENT OF VACCINATIONS IN MOST AGE GROUPS

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Health unit figures show Gravenhurst trails the rest of Muskoka percentage-wise in most vaccination age categories.
An look at their numbers — in charts below as of today — shows only among seniors do residents of the Gateway to Muskoka compare favourably with other residents in the district among those getting first, second and even third shots for resident who are aged as young as 5 and a old as 80+.
This as vaccinations with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine began in Simcoe Muskoka two years ago on Dec. 22, 2020, says the South Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU).
Primary care teams began administering AstraZeneca March 12th, 2021. COVID-19 vaccinations with the Moderna vaccine began in Simcoe Muskoka on March 15, 2021, and vaccinations with the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Janssen single dose COVID-19 vaccine began in the region on January 4, 2022.
- All long-term care homes (LTCH) in Simcoe Muskoka were surveyed in August 2021. The LTCHs were asked for the current vaccination status of their staff and residents. Approximately 90% of LTCH staff have had their first dose of vaccine and over 80% have had both doses. Over 95% of all LTCH residents have had both doses of vaccine.
- Third doses of vaccine (also referred to as a booster dose) have been offered to all eligible residents of the 30 Long-Term Care Homes in Simcoe Muskoka, with approximately 2,995 residents receiving a third does. Third doses have also been offered to most of residents of Retirement Homes in Simcoe Muskoka with approximately 3,115 residents receiving a third dose.
- Fourth doses are currently being administered to eligible LTCH residents with nearly 850 fourth dose administered to date. There have also been nearly 300 fourth doses administered to eligible Retirement Home residents in Simcoe Muskoka.
- As of January 25, 2022, 492,594 (or 81%) of Simcoe Muskoka’s residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, with 463,020 (or 77%) of residents also receiving their second dose. There are currently 252,986 (42%) Simcoe Muskoka residents that have also received a third dose of vaccine. Eligibility and recommendations for third dose in Ontario are described in this document available from the Ministry of Health. In addition 20,039 (46%) Simcoe Muskoka children ages 5 to 11 years have received their first dose of vaccine.
- Pediatric first doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine have been administered to 20,245 (222 new yesterday) Simcoe Muskoka children 5 years of age and older.
- Approximately 86% of Simcoe Muskoka residents 5 years of age and older have received at least one dose of vaccine, 81% have received both doses and 44% have received a third dose.
