18 COVID CASES IN MUSKOKA OVER THE WEEKEND AFTER 407 LAST WEEK IN REGION

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — After 407 COVID cases last week in Simcoe-Muskoka, the week starts off with 49 — including 18 in Muskoka since Friday.

That includes 87 over the weekend in the county and district.

This as the first shipment of kids vaccines has arrived in Hamilton via UPS and Ontario bookings start tomorrow with first shots Thursday.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reports 10 more cases in Bracebridge, 3 each in Gravenhurst and Huntsville and 2 in Georgian Bay.

Muskoka’s most recent cases are:

Those weekend cases include 51 people who weren’t vaccinated, 33 who were fully vaccinated and 2 partially vaccinated.

Two people died over the weekend and 3 more were admitted to hospital for a total of 23 hospitalized.

A couple walk their dog today in Gravenhurst next to an apartment that is across the street from a multi-plex where a fire early today left four families homeless homeless on Hughson Street.

HEALTH UNIT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 15,076  cases to date
  • 49 this week
  • 407 last week, which was, 23% higher than the 332 cases reported for the week of November 7.
  • From December 22 there have been 763 confirmed COVID-19 cases among vaccinated individuals
  • 11 deaths in November, 5 each in October and September
  • From September 26 to November 20, the rate of COVID-19 infection among the unvaccinated vaccine-eligible Simcoe Muskoka population is seven times higher than it is for fully vaccinated population and the rate of COVID-19 hospitalizations is 12 times higher.
  • 4,008 Alpha variants of concern, 169 Gamma, 34 Beta, 2,096 Delta
  • 662 cases await confirmation of VOC
  • 929,530 vaccines have been administered
  • 465,404 residents have received at least one vaccine, which represents 77% of the total population
  • 88% of the population 12+ have had at least one vaccine
  • 88% of youth 12 to 17 have also received at least one vaccine

Three more people were admitted to hospital over the weekend, bringing the number to 23. And 2 more people have died since the last update Friday.
