BOWYER’S BEACH, GULL LAKE SWIM ADVISORIES LIFTED IN TIME FOR WEEKEND
MUSKOKA — A couple of beaches have been freed from swim advisories in time for the weekend.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) has lifted the swim advisory for Bowyer’s Beach (1019 Bowyer’s Beach Road) effective Aug. 6 from follow-up testing as a result of the initial swim advisory notice on July 30.
And in Gravenhurst Friday they lifted an advisory put on Gull Lake Rotary Park just yesterday, Thursday Aug. 5.
However, Muskoka Bay Park Beach in West Gravenhurst remains under a swim advisory.
During a swim advisory, the beach is posted with warning signs that the most recent water samples showed bacteria in numbers that may increase your risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections, or stomach illness. If you choose to swim during a swim advisory, avoid submerging your head or swallowing the water. Please visit the Town’s website for beach COVID-19 safety protocols and additional swimming options in Gravenhurst.
Beaches and parks are actively being monitored by town bylaw. As a reminder, misuse or non-compliance of beach protocols and Town by-laws may lead to the closing of beaches, parks, and public spaces in an effort to protect the community.
For additional information on beach water testing, please refer to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit website at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org.
