BOATERS IN GRAVENHURST, MUSKOKA LAKES CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

MUSKOKA — Two boaters face court dates after being charged with impaired operation on local lakes.

Police say that on July 3 officers with the OPP marine unit based in Bracebridge were doing routine checks by stopping boats and doing safety inspections to protect the waterways.

While on patrol on Kahshe Lake, in south Gravenhurst, officers conducted stopped a vessel and suspected the operator had consumed alcohol.

After an investigation 38-year-old Jason Schliwa, of Gravenhurst, was charged with Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Over in Muskoka Lakes Township, officers further stopped a boat on Mirror Lake near the Indian River, where that operator was also suspected to have consumed alcohol, say police in a report today.

As a result 24-year old Riley Larman, of Etobicoke, was charged with Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Both men were released from custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge at a later date.
