MISSISSAUGA MAN IDENTIFIED AS LATEST MUSKOKA DROWNING VICTIM

BRACEBRIDGE — A Mississauga man who drowned Saturday night on the north branch of the Muskoka River near Santa’s Village has been identified.

Police say Noel Caoile, 18, died while swimming off Golden Beach Road.

He was the fourth person to die that week after two other young men aged 20 and 23 drowned while swimming at the rapids in Port Sydney. A Caledon man, 61, died Friday in Arnolds Bay west of MacTier.

Provincial police say he failed to surface after going in to the water in Bracebridge just after 7 p.m.

Efforts by bystanders to search for him continued when the OPP and Bracebridge Fire responded to the 911 swimmer in distress call.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) found his body Sunday morning after attempts late Saturday night were called off for safety reasons.

The search was suspended due to visibility and safety concerns and resumed early this morning on Sunday, July 4. And shortly before 9 a.m. his body was recovered.

Police remind all residents and visitors to be cautious whenever entering a body of water. Know your limits, wear appropriate safety equipment and please stay safe.
