HUNTSVILLE MAN FINED $3,755 FOR FAILING TO QUARANTINE
HUNTSVILLE — A police check yesterday on a local man who failed to quarantine after returning to Canada has led to a $3,755 fine against him.
Provincial police at Huntsville said Friday that they did a compliance check on him as part of an enforcement of the federal Quarantine Act.
The government of Canada has put in place emergency measures to slow the introduction and spread of COVID-19 and variants of concern in Canada.
On entering Canada a person must quarantine for 14 days and monitor themselves for signs and symptoms.
Compliance with the requirements is subject to verification and enforcement.
One of the requirements is for a person to go directly to their place of quarantine without delay and stay there for the duration of their quarantine.
Police say that on May 27 an OPP officer conducted a quarantine compliance check on behalf of the Public Health Agency of Canada.
The officer found that the man who was subject to quarantine was not at home (place of quarantine) and was out in the community.
He received a fine of $3,755 after being charged with: Failure to comply with an order prohibiting or subjecting to any condition the entry into Canada contrary to section 58 of the Quarantine Act.
