GRAVENHURST — After going outside to hire a new fire chief, the Town of Gravenhurst has stayed in-house with the hiring of a popular new CAO.
Scott Lucas, director of community growth and development, will return to the job Nov. 1 after a previously brief stint as acting CAO.
The town says in a release tonight that following a comprehensive and extensive town search involving 200 candidates — with the help of Waterhouse Executive Search — Lucas will replace Glen Davies who was hired in 2015.
“I’m confident that we have selected a great leader for our organization and for our community,” said Mayor Paul Kelly.
“Council and I are looking forward to working very closely with Scott for the betterment of Gravenhurst. In all instances, the Town will be rising from a particularly challenging time in our history, and we will require continued strong leadership to guide staff in the right direction.
“The knowledge, expertise, and existing relationship that Scott has with our community, staff and council is a fundamental foundation for future success. Council and I have been continually impressed with Mr. Lucas’s professionalism over the years and congratulate him on this well-deserved appointment.”
Lucas, a long-time civil servant with 17 years of experience in a variety of portfolios, started in the planning department, which he eventually headed up before a departmental re-organization.
During that time Lucas has sat on a variety of boards/organizations as a volunteer that have helped inform and shape his career professionally and personally, which have helping support and enhance community life, health and wellness, adds the release.
Lucas says he looks forward to further involving himself in Gravenhurst.
He is excited about his new leadership role with the town and looks forward to new challenges ahead.
His CV notes he studied human and physical geography at Brock University and undertook his graduate studies in rural planning and development at the University of Guelph.
Since his graduation he has obtained several certifications since, with a heavy focus on municipal leadership and management, including a Master Certificate in municipal leadership and management through the Schulich program at York University.
He and his wife, Michelle, and two sons, Grady, and Nolan, live in Muskoka.
The council hiring committee short listed the 200 applicants to eight, then the final four who were interviewed by all the councillors.
Lucas was unanimously selected.
Over the next few months, the Town will work on plans to replace Lucas in his current role.
