KAWARTHA GROW-OP NETS COPS 2,428 IN POT PLANTS

CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES A couple thousand pot plants may seem like small potatoes for provincial police who announced a $1.8 million raid in southwestern Ontario.

But a cottage country cannabis bust is a big deal in the Kawarthas.

The OPP executed a Cannabis Act (CA) warrant Tuesday they say interrupted the illegal production of cannabis at a local residence.

On March 23 the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with the Emergency Response Team (ERT) raided a residence on Hickory Beach Road and seized 2,428 pot plants in various states of growth.

Two people were arrested, but no street value was mentioned in a police release today.

Huanya Sun, 36, of Markham, was charged with:

Cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four cannabis plants, contrary to the Cannabis Act (CA)

Possession for the purpose of distributing, contrary to the CA

Dang Hon Xiong, 50, was charged with:

Cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four cannabis plants, contrary to the Cannabis Act (CA).

They are to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay May 20, 2021.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office also investigated.

An indoor cannabis grow-op in the City of Kawartha Lakes Tuesday netted police almost 2,500 plants in various stages of growth. Two men were charged with cultivating cannabis.
