OTHER DRIVER IN O’LEARY BOAT CRASH GUILTY OF NO LIGHT
MUSKOKA — The driver of the boat in which two people died in a Lake Joe collision with another boat involving Kevin O’Leary and his wife has been convicted of failing to have a navigation light, reports the CBC.
Richard Ruh’s conviction last September and was done in absentia, according to provincial offence documents. He was fined $150 with a $30 victim surcharge.
The Orchard Park, N.Y., resident was boating just before midnight Aug. 24, 2019, when the collision occurred with the O’Leary boat driven by Linda O’Leary.
She faces careless operation of a vessel charges under the Canada Shipping Act.
Her trial is scheduled for June in Parry Sound.
The families of the two victims, Gary Poltash, 64, of Florida, and Susana Brito, 48, of Uxbridge, have filed civil suits.

If Ruh was fined $150 plus $30 I think I know where this trial is going.

Wow, prosecutors feel confident that driving a boat at speed in darkness is reckless behavior versus the simple act of switching off the navigation lights! That’s common sense! But not the law… The wrong party has been charged.
