Elmvale Arena fire leads to arson charges

ELMVALE — A fire at the Elmvale Arena Tuesday has led to a half dozen charges against a 20-year-old male who was caught fleeing the scene, including arson and weapons charges.

A fire at the Elmvale Arena Tuesday was arson, say police, who caught a suspect.

Provincial police say that on May 29, 2018, at 2:12 p.m., members of the Huronia West OPP Detachment were dispatched to the Elmvale Arena at 14 George Street for reports of an intentionally-set fire.

Through an investigation, a suspect vehicle was identified.

A few hours after the initial call, a motor vehicle matching the description was observed on County Rd. 92 in Springwater Twp.

The driver of the motor vehicle fled from police resulting in a short pursuit.

As a result, a 20-year-old male from Tiny Twp was taken into custody and is now facing the following charges:

  • CC 88 Adult possession of a weapon of Dangerous purpose
  • CC 91(1) Adult Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • CC 249.(1)(1) Adult Flight while pursued by Peace Officer
  • CC 434 Adult Arson – Damage to Property
  • CC 430(3) Adult Mischief over $5000.00
  • HTA 172(1) Adult Race a Motor Vehicle – Excessive Speed

He was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie
