MUSKOKA — The coronavirus continues to get worse in Simcoe and Muskoka.
Two Huntsville women are among 15 new cases today and 132 this week.
The health unit says the four-day total is the highest weekly total since the start of the pandemic and the third straight week or record numbers.
The two cases in Huntsville are a woman over 80 who tested positive after travel.
And a woman 45-64 is under investigation as to the cause.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) says the 450 cases in October were the most in a month since the global outbreak 10 months ago.
Most of the cases have been in Barrie and South Simcoe, with seniors hit hardest in LTCs and who have the highest mortality rate; with 50 people in the region who have died.
SMDHU says the impact of Thanksgiving on local case and contact numbers now shows 47 confirmed cases can be attributed to 23 separate holiday gatherings.
There are 167 active cases and three more people are in hospital among the total 1,485 cases to date.
Meanwhile, Ontario reports 998 cases today and Quebec 1,138.
In New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador there were two new cases each today and one in Nova Scotia.
Manitoba jumped again to 374 Wednesday.
In other COVID news, the Public Health Agency of Canada has now joined other countries and health organizations by revising guidelines on how it is being spread.
“SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, spreads from an infected person to others through respiratory droplets and aerosols created when an infected person coughs, sneezes, sings, shouts, or talks.”
