OPP DIVERS SEARCH FOR CANOEIST WHO CAPSIZED

CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES Police divers are searching Pigeon Lake near Bobcaygeon today for a canoeist who overturned last night.

The OPP’s underwater search and recovery unit (USRU) are continuing the search for the missing person Wednesday.

They say that on  July 14, just after 9 p.m. officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment responded to a call on Pigeon Lake.

It was reported that five people left a residence in a canoe that later capsized.

Four of the occupants were located by a boater and taken to shore.

One person was not found.

Police say none of the canoeists were wearing life jackets.

Officers, firefighters the OPP’s aviation services assisted with the initial search.

Police were called at 9 p.m. Tuesday night after five canoeists capsized. None of them were wearing life jackets.
