UPDATE: SWIM ADVISORIES LIFTED IN GRAVENHURST, PORT SYDNEY

MUSKOKA — On-and-off beach swim advisories continue across Muskoka are OFF again.

(UPDATE: Beaches at West Gravenhurst and Port Sydney are open again for the weekend as of Friday July 17.)

Today, Tuesday, July 14, Gravenhurst town officials said based on beach water samples collected by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) on Monday July 13, it has been recommended by the SMDHU that the Muskoka Bay Beach Park in West Gravenhurst be posted with swim advisory signs.

The beach itself will remain open to the public.

They say during the swim advisory the beach will be posted with warning signs that the most recent water samples showed bacteria in numbers that may increase your risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections, or stomach illness.

If you choose to swim during a swim advisory, avoid submerging your head or swallowing the water. Please visit the Town website for beach protocols and additional swimming options in Gravenhurst.

Meanwhile, also as of July 14, in Port Sydney the village’s main beach is also back under a swim alert after reopening for the weekend.

Muskoka Bay Beach in West Gravenhurst and the Port Carling village main beach are both under a swim advisories, issued July 14 by the Simcoe-Musoka health unit.
