29 distracted drivers charged in Orillia
ORILLIA — March break may be over, but distracted drivers aren’t done behind the wheel.
That’s the result of crackdown on mindless drivers.
Orillia OPP members dedicated a number of hours during the campaign to make themselves visible to the public and help deter drivers who would be distracted by their devices during this time frame.
Despite the best efforts to deter drivers, Orillia OPP officers laid 29 Distracted Driving related charges. This number is likely only a fraction of the people who are driving distracted on Orillia roads. With all the knowledge about the impact that distracted driving takes on our families it is a mystery as to why anyone would want to put themselves or anyone else at risk to answer a text, check social media, answer a phone call or use a device while driving.
The OPP implores anyone who may be tempted to drive while distracted to put down the device and focus on the road and keep themselves and anyone else on the road safe. For more information on road safety please visit www.opp.ca.
