GRAVENHURST MAYOR KELLY RETURNS TO SELF-ISOLATION

Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.com

MUSKOKA — Gravenhurst’s mayor is “keeping in the loop” while under self-isolation this week.

Paul Kelly and his wife, Sue, returned to their Morrison Lake home March 10 and he expects to be back on the job next Wednesday, March 25.

The couple were 10 days in Saint Martin and flew back to Pearson airport in Toronto a week ago Tuesday.

Kelly — who told MuskokaTODAY.com Friday that they are doing fine and have no symptoms — said he has been in frequent daily contact with CAO Glen Davies and town staff, including emergency management head and Deputy Fire Chief Todd Clapp.

The mayor said that there weren’t the same health concerns 10 days ago when he returned.

He said St. Martin wasn’t identified at that point as having any coronavirus cases.

And when he flew home, he said he and his wife received a paper update on the then emerging COVID-19 that recommended all travellers confine themselves to their residence for 14 days.

Which the Kellys have willingly done without incident.

He said he consulted with Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit medical officer of health Dr. Charles Gardner, who at first said Kelly could return to work.

But he later advised the mayor not to do so and to wait the now mandatory two weeks.

Kelly said in a video update on town website: “We’re both doing well with no cornoavirus symptoms at this point.”

And he said he is confident town staff is continuing their incident planning and operations with him participating by phone.

He said things still “could change” in the coming days and weeks.
