WAYNE’S WORLD MEETS CHEERS FRIDAYS AT LEGION

GRAVENHURST — It’s called a Rebel Tailgate Party.
But it’s not as wild as it sounds.
It’s Wayne’s World meets Cheers — legion-style.
A friendly Friday drop-in upstairs at Branch #302, meant to take the chill off winter.
The funhouse includes a few games, but it’s mostly a chance for musicians to get out of the house and entertain in front of more than the family dog.
Casual and a great big dance floor.
Host Wayne Hill said he wants to just “have a little fun” in the winter, when there’s often not that much going on.
All are welcome; there’s a $5 donation bin for the pickers and players.
Including some great guitarists and surprisingly good singers.
You never know who you’ll hear.
Scott Slater, a mechanic at Sander Motors, fronted the band on guitar, along with Hill and an entertaining Shawn Rousseau.
They were backed up by a decent drummer, Danny Ellement, and Anthony Adams holding down a solid beat on bass.
Mark Mathis, on his home-made banjo-lele, Rick Cadeau on harp with a nice French jig and singer Joyce Kivell (singing Patsy Cline’s Walking After Midnight) were pleasant additions last week.
Have a listen 7 to 11 p.m.
And have some fun.
Wayne Hill and friends welcome entertainers to drop-in at the Gravenhurst legion Friday nights from 7-11 p.m.
Rick Cadeau plays a lively French jig on the harp.
