HWY. 11 POLICE CHASE BARRIE TO ORILLIA; MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS

ORILLIA A Hwy. 11 police chase this afternoon between Barrie and Orillia that saw several vehicles involved in crashes has landed a suspect under arrest and in hospital.

Provincial police at Orillia say that on Friday officers, supported by Barrie Police Service, responded to a call for theft of gas on at Gasoline Alley at 1:38 p.m., March 6.

Police say they located and attempted to stop the full-size van without success.

The white van then continued north on the highway.

Police say the drive was “driving erratically” when it collided with a number of vehicles.

Finally, the van came to a rest on Hurtubise Drive in Orillia, where the driver was stopped and apprehended by police at 3 p.m.

The accused is in police custody and was been taken to hospital; along with several officers who sustained minor injuries and were treated as a precaution.

The OPP ask that motorists involved in the collisions to report to a Collision Reporting Centre.

Also, witnesses and anyone who may have dash cam video footage of the incident are asked to contact Orillia OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
