GRAVENHURST LEGION DONATES $13,500 BACK TO 8 COMMUNITY GROUPS AT LAST NIGHT’S MONTHLY MEETING

GRAVENHURST — Two food banks, four school breakfast programs, scouts and Muskoka’s army cadets have received $13,500 in charitable donations from the local legion.

Treasurer Lee Coles and president Lu Hoffman-Steiger handed out cheques to six of the eight grateful recipients at last night’s monthly general meeting of Branch #302.

Members had passed a motion at last month’s meeting and invited representatives to their next meeting, March 25.

On hand representing their organizations and accepting the money were:

  1. 2250 Muskoka Pioneers Cadets, Lt. George Lauer: $1,000
  2. Gravenhurst Against Poverty (GAP) Brian Purvis: $3,000
  3. Gravenhurst Public School, principal Kim Wiles: $1,500
  4. K.P. Manson Public School, principal Tim Clayton: $1,500
  5. Gravenhurst High School, teacher Kirsten Hamara: $1,500
  6. Beechgrove Public School, teacher Anna Racki: $1,500

South Muskoka Salvation Army, $5,000; and Gravenhurst Boy Scouts, $1,500, accepted their cheques separately.
