GRAVENHURST — A scary incident in which a vehicle was lit on fire at gas pumps here March 1 has led to two charges against a teenager from Huntsville.

On Wednesday police charged the young man after beginning an investigation the day after the Sunday evening incident.

They say that on Monday, March 2, officers began investigating at the PetroCan gas bar in Southgate Plaza on Muskoka Road South.

Three individuals pushed a black vehicle toward the gas pump and when they got close to the pump, one person began dispensing gas into the vehicle.

Another person in the group attempted to light the fuel on fire as it was being dispensed, and was able to do so, causing a considerable fire to the vehicle.

The quick-thinking attendant shut the fuel off to the gas pump and arrived with a fire extinguisher.

Police describe the incident as was quite dangerous and had the potential to cause significant harm as well as property damage.

Wednesday evening, just after 11:30 p.m., officers arrested and charged 18-year-old Isaiah Bradbury-Chapman, of Huntsville, with:

  • Mischief Endangering Life
  • Common Nuisance Endangering Life

Bradbury-Chapman is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on May 5.
