WAVE, TOOT YOUR HORN, CHEER — AND DONATE — TO GAP’S COLDEST NIGHT OF YEAR HOOFERS SATURDAY AT 5 P.M. THROUGH GRAVENHURST, AS THEY HAVE FUN HIKING TO RAISE $185,000 IN 7TH ANNUAL WALK

GRAVENHURST — It’s never too cold to walk.

So if you’re out walking  Saturday — as I see many of you each morning, afternoon and evening — why not walk for a great cause.

Not just your own health but for the food safety, transportation help and mental health of others in our community.

That’s what almost 200 signed up already are doing at 5 p.m. this Saturday afternoon, Feb. 28, for the 7th annual Gravenhurst Against Poverty’s Coldest Night of the Year trek through town.

With three days to start, organizers have an amazing almost $132,000 in pledges, which is 71 per cent of their goal toward $185,000. There are 47 teams of walkers.

Last year they had donations of $135,000. In 2020 $51,000 was raised — and the following four years it’s been steadily upwards $51,000, $91,000, $177,000, $143,000, $177,000.

They’re one of the most successful fundraising groups Gravenhurst has seen.

There’s still time to pledge a team or make a donation by going to their website here.

It’s part of a national food banks-related initiative that will see at least 184 registered walkers on 47 teams trek up and back from the Lions Pavilion at the Muskoka Wharf after congregating at 4 p.m. for pre- and post celebrations.

It’s two hours of fun, walking, donating and helping the community.

There routes are 2 kms and 5 kms up to the post office, turning left to Sawdust City for a shortened walk and south to Mr. Sub for the turnaround.

Wave, toot your horn, cheer — and donate — to the walkers if you see them along the way.

As of Wednesday GAP’s total pledges are 71 per cent on the way to its goal of $185,000. You can still donate after the walk, also.
The top 10 of 47 registered teams are well on their way to raising more than $50,000 alone in 2026.
Donations have soared since they first began in 2020 when they raised an incredible $51,000 back then.
