TRUMP ‘ICED’ TODAY, GOLDEN MOMENT THANKS TO CARNEY AND NATO ALLIES — WHO STAND ON GUARD FOR GREENLAND
Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.com OPINION
In the “new world’s” daily parlance of hyperbole, to say Donald Trump got “iced” today at Davos is no exaggeration.
An irony on its own — and Golden moment — I’d both suggest.
The bullying 45-47 U.S. president was shot down today in the face of allied resistance and public pressure.
He met his match in NATO and Mark Carney’s risky, but masterful in-your-face “hegemony” remarks yesterday, which with risk to Canada dared articulate what most of the world wanted asserted and affirmed on the global stage.

“Oh … good,” Trump said Wednesday, in admitting he won’t be “using force to take Greenland.”
Nor imposing tariffs Feb. 1 on countries whose red line he crossed and a handful of allied countries responded with a few dozen soldiers dispatched to Greenland — a gesture that in itself was a NATO tour de force.
Who’s stupid now?
The Doomsday Clock ticked back 63 years to Oct. 28, 1962 when the 35th U.S. president JFK faced down Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev — Vladimir Putin’s alleged shoe-pounding predecessor.
A defiant Trump, who continued his ramped-up rhetoric Wednesday, remained to the end bellicose, aggressive, hostile, pugnacious, bullying, threatening, antagonistic, truculent, confrontational, argumentative, dictatorial, disputatious, contentious, militant, combative, quick-tempered, hot-tempered, ill-tempered, bad-tempered, irascible, captious, quarrelsome, spoiling for fight, stroppy, bolshie, scrappy and oppugnent.
But he got his comeuppance yesterday when “Mark” made Donald the main course on the economic table menu.
A menacing-looking Emmanuel Macron (red eye) reinforced the Canadian prime minister with his similarly stern rebuke, echoing and reinforcing Carney’s stunning stare down Tuesday.
Back off bully!
Carney’s speech, certain to go down in Canadian lore as a Heritage Moment as a day when Canada became a true middle power, may actually prove to leverage Canadian trade negotions not only with the U.S., but globally including more with China.
So what, if lest he forgets — that’s always the Grand Old Party elephant’s threat.
Over the top, eh?
Down to Earth, it’s not the oil, “stupid” — as Trump likes to say. It’s his Golden Dome (hair?), his overarching international security blanket.
As of this minute the Danes aren’t buying it. Thought in this fast-moving story a deal may be present that could see the U.S. expand greatly their military base. Stand by.
Trump says the U.S. may not need Canada and NATO (or the rest of the west) — but he has temporarily realized it needs us at least above the Arctic Circle.
Because, when it comes to these war of words alone: Will the circle be unbroken?
Not today. Not ever. Now.
Good luck with the Board of Peace — the EU trade deal and CUSMA.
Trump lives to fight another day — or war — thanks to NATO and Carney.
They have his back — at least for now.
The new world order has changed for the good. NATO works — and Trump actually really can work with it and when parnters force him.
If Trump thinks “Canada lives because of the United States” — maybe now the they will understand it, too, that it lives because of the middle-powers like Canada.
Take that chump, Trump.
Be “grateful” and thank us for this “freebie.”
