HOYAS, OPP HOCKEY GAME FRIDAY TO HELP CORNER LIGHTHOUSE FOODBANK; AND DONATE TO MUSKOKA FAMILY CONNEXTIONS HOLIDAY PROGRAM THIS CHRISTMAS

MUSKOKA — Here two great last-minute Christmas gift ideas that’ll do a lot of good in our community.

On Friday, December 19, at 11:30 a.m. a hockey game in aid of Huntsville’s Corner Lighthouse Food Bank faces off at the Jack Bionda Arena when the Huntsville High School Hoyas take on members of the OPP in a charity hockey game.

The game is likely to be a spirited one, if the intensity of past games is repeated. See local detachment officers sporting new team jerseys thanks to the generosity of our community partner, capstone Venture.

The true winner of this event will not be the team with the most goals, but rather the Corner Lighthouse Foodbank.

See their Facebook page link here.

Students and members of the public who attend to watch are asked to think about those in our community in need and bring a non-perishable food item to donate.

The OPP want to express their thanks to teacher/coach Graham Yeo for his hard work in preparing his team, the officials and volunteers to make this a great community event. And also thanks to the Town of Huntsville for the use of the arena.

Family Connextions Holiday Program

And it’s not too late to sign up or donate and support Muskoka kids and families.

Become a donor for Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions’ Holiday Program and make a significant difference.

They are still looking for community members and businesses to sign up or donate.

When you sign-up, you can create customized packages based on wish lists they receive directly from families and youth they work with, or collect the most needed items. Financial donations are also always welcome and help fill gaps when items aren’t directly donated: https://familyconnexions.ca/?give=5WEY6LD2

While toys are always a good option, there’s also a high need for items such as toiletries, clothes, cleaning supplies, baby items, electronics, and sports/exercise items.

Independent youth also struggle with acquiring kitchen items, from small appliances to cutlery, as well as tools and houseware/décor. All of those bring them one step closer to independence.

‘Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” organizers say.

“It has been a stressful year, but you have made it finish wonderfully,” say an anonymous recipient. “My daughter and I can’t thank you enough. Thank you for making my daughter’s Christmas so wonderful. We appreciate you.”

Family Connextions says their goal is to further support the safety and wellbeing of children, youth, and families in our community during times of hardship, helping them to find stability and thrive.

Whether you’re able to contribute financially, with an in-kind donation or gift cards, your support towards families, children and youth in need will go a long way!
