BEARS SPLIT HOME WEEKEND AS OFFENCE CONTINUES TO TICK UP
Four goals in back-to-back games produce a win over Innisfil before Penetang rallies for Saturday victory

BRACEBRIDGE — The Muskoka Bears are finding their offensive range — and the results were at least mixed these last two outings.
The Bears scored four goals in each of their two weekend home games, earning a 4-2 win over the Innisfil Spartans on Friday before falling 6-4 to the Penetang Kings last night.
After snapping a four-game skid with Friday’s 4-2 victory over Innisfil, Muskoka carried that momentum into Saturday, leaning heavily on its top scoring line.
But despite a strong start, the Bears couldn’t hold off a deep and opportunistic Penetang squad.
Muskoka opened Saturday’s contest with a 2-1 first-period lead on goals from Kevin Demeules, his 12th of the seaon, and William Muszynski, his eighth.

Penetang responded with a pair of the own in the second period to take a 3-2 edge into the third.
The Bears struck quickly in the final frame, tying the game on a shorthanded marker by Tyson Jennings just 44 seconds in. Penetang answered 44 seconds later, then added what proved to be the game-winner at 4:29 before an empty-net goal sealed it late.
Kyle Downey returned to the crease for Muskoka after Joseph Degan got the start Friday night, stopping 34 of 39 shots. Penetang netminder Landon Simec turned aside 38 of 42.
Despite the loss, Muskoka outshot the Kings 42-40 and matched one of the league’s top teams goal for goal until the final minutes.
The Bears now sit at 7-17 through 26 games, while Penetang improved to 15-6 in 25 outings.
Muskoka heads back on the road Thursday in Stayner, visits Midland on Friday, then returns home Sunday for a rematch with the Kings.
