JUDY HUMPHRIES TALKS ABOUT 58 ‘SOLDIERS MISSING FROM OUR MONUMENT’ NOV. 11 AND ‘HOW CAN WE REMENDY PROBLEM?’

GRAVENHURST — Fifty-eight men born in Gravenhurst, Morrison and Ryde townships lost their lives in the Great War of 1914 to 1918.

They were among more than 600 who signed up to defend Canada, the Commonwealth and world, she has meticullously researched and writes about in her soon to be published book on them.

On November 11, at 6:30 p.m., join Judy Humphries at Gravenhurst Public Library as she pays tribute to these brave men and tells some of their stories of being born here, growing up, going to war, dying and being memorialized and recognized again next Tuesday Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the annual Royal Canadian Legion, on Bethune Drive South.

It’s part of her ongoing efforts to correct errors on First World War cenotaph memorial stone contains she has documented as missing 44 names.

Names from some families who still liv in town, but  who you won’t see etched Tuesday when Last Post is blown for them.

Including Jack Greenwood, Harry Muldrew, Alfred C. Myers, Walter Perkins, Frank Waite, Hubert Corbett, William C. Cook and Harry Charles Burnett.

She wonders: “How can we remedy this problem?”

It’s the focus of her talk entitled: Soldiers Missing From Our Monument.

Harry Muldrew, Alfred C. Myers and Hubert Corbett.
Cornetist Walter Perkins and dashing William C. Cook.
Charles Burnett
Private Frank Waite with his wife, son and two daughters.
Officer Jack Greenwood with his swagger stick.
