GRAVENHURST — With a heart-stopping performance last night, the Severn Bridge Farm Divas won the inaugural Gravenhurst Chamber of Commerce Lip-Synching Contest.

Direct from a command performance at their fall fair last month, the foursome topped the Muskoka Glam Divas and five other performing acts at the Opera House that had the audience howling their delight.

They put the fun in fundraiser for the new Gravenhurst Health Hub addition being planned and orchestrated by the Rotary Club.

While all the performers were great, the Farm Divas made it through the third round final win where they sealed their victory with “Staying Alive,” the Bee Gees hit where they performed CPR as part of the bit that drew huge laughs from about 200 new fans at the Opera House.

They faced off in the final song-off against Yvonne Fortney and Legendary Hype Fitness & Performers, who started out with an acrobatic rendition of “Circus,” by Britney Spears.

The contest had audience applause voting the first round and the semifinalists getting help at intermission through donations  every $5 addiing a point to the scores of the judges Rotarian John Latour, Miss Wendy Just for Kicks owner and instructor and Trish Mintz, Cottage Country Family Health Team executive director.

Emcees Autumn Smith and her wife Sara Hiscox opened with their own lip-synch song and dance and kept a lively, entertaining banter going as they introduced the other seven acts.

Performances were by:

  • Ally Abbott “Hot, Hot, Hot” – Buster Poindexter
  • Mark Clairmont “Hallelujah – Leonard Cohen

The Muskoka Seafleas were among the most entertaining of the night with their well-choreographed dance moves performing cleverly to “On the Boat Again.” Taking a well-dserveded bow is Chris Taylor with fellow Rotarians Rob Abbott and teammate Norah Fountain who is somewhere off lost in their wake.
At intermission Rotarian Chris Mintz tallied the public’s $5 cash donations that accumulated in to points for the acts, which were added to the final scores of the three judges.
Yvonee Courtney was working it with her acrobatic kids crew.
One of the loudest cheers was for the Muskoka Pride’s Gravenhurst Glam Fam trio including stunner Champagne Top’Her.

The fun continued off stage in the dressing rooms where the bubbly Gravenhurst Glam Fam girls — Champagne Top’Her, Jessica Lee and Euphorika — were still enjoying themselves after a great night out on the town. They’re performing at the Sawdust Saloon next month.
