RIGHT ON!  FOR THIS WEEKEND ….  BAY & BEYOND OPENS 3-BLOCK STRETCH FRIDAY FOR BALA CRANBERRY FESTIVAL TRAFFIC, BEFORE RE-PAVING BOTTOM HALF NEXT WEEK

GRAVENHURST — They called this a short week.

But the real reason for this week’s delay in re-doing Bay Street from Greavette to Muskoka Steamship Bay Road is Bala’s Cranberry Festival.

The just completed three-block stretch of from Greavette Street to Sarah Street opened for the weekend.

However, just for three days — today, tomorrow and Sunday.

Then it will close next Monday to Friday for another makeover after the District of Muskoka — the bankroller — didn’t approve of the job water, storm water and sewer resurfacing job.

Blame them, says C. Valley Paving.

So traffic can head up hill headed east from the Muskoka Wharf — and turn left or now right for 72 hours.

Busy traffic headed west to Bala starting rainy Friday is mostly to blame.

  1. Valley is grinding and resurfacing the long stretch, which is now scheduled Oct. 20-24.

The first couple days Monday to Wednesday will see “shaving and paving” on the westbound lane from Muldrew Lake Road to the sports park; followed Thursday and Friday farther along and a complete roadtop work both lanes up to Greavette.

The District Road will be reduced to one lane during those times.

James and Brown streets will remain detour routes.

Work is then scheduled to proceed two more blocks from Sarah Street to John Street before winter as part of the three-year $10 million project.

And to Bethune Drive next year.

Bala Cranberry Fest-goers can proceed westbound down Bay Street here from Sarah Street to Greavette Street for the weekend before traffic reverts temporarily next week to one lane for repaving.
