GRAVENHURST — A Scarborough man on probation charged with two thefts at grocery stores here Wednesday will appear in bail court tomorrow after he pressed his luck yesterday

Gyorgy Lakatos is also suspected of stealing thousands of dollars of goods from grocery stores in Gravenhurst on September 8 and 17.

On Tuesday October 7, at 3:40 p.m., police responded to reports of a theft in progress at Sobeys on Edward Street.

Store staff recognized the individual as a person who had stolen from the store previously and acted fast, say the OPP.

Officers responded and their investigation revealed Lakatos is alleged to have been responsible for a sizeable theft from YIG early in the day.

Police believe he also stole thousands of dollars of goods from grocery stores within the past month.

Lakatos, 59, was charged with Theft Under $5000 X 4 and Fail to Comply with Probation X 6.

He was held in custody to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge for a bail hearing on October 9.

Police responded quickly yesterday arresting and charging Gyorgy Lakatos, 59, after Sobeys staff spotted the repeat offender suspect Tuesday who was also charged with a similar theft from the YIG in the same town earlier in the day.
