FIVE IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES END SUMMER ON SOUTH MUSKOKA ROADS

BRACEBRIDGE — The end of summer didn’t mean an end to impaired driving in south Muskoka.

Police laid five charges Aug. 22 to Sept. 1, including three drivers from Gravenhurst.

  1. Friday August 22 at 10:30 p.m., officers conducting a RIDE program on Beaumont Drive in Bracebridge stopped a 43-year-old Stefanus Castelijn, of Mattawa, charging him with Impaired Operation and Over 80.  Castelijn is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge October 7, 2025.
  2. On Sunday August 24, at 8:25 a.m., police received concerns from members of the public about a possible impaired driver operating a motorcycle in the town of Gravenhurst. Officers located the individual at an address on Bethune Drive charging 61-year-old Rod Benson, of Gravenhurst, with Impaired Operation and Over 80. Benson is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge September 16.
  3. Then on Thursday, August 28, at 12:05 a.m. police were notified of a possible impaired driver from a concerned member of the public in the area of Muskoka Road North near Harvie Street in Gravenhurst. Officers located Michael White, 41, of Gravenhurst and charged him with Impaired Operation and Over 80. White is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on September 30, 2025.
  4. On Saturday August 30, at 11:30 a.m., multiple reports from motorists travelling on Highway 11 North in Gravenhurst alerted police to a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle at a service centre north of Gravenhurst charging 62-year-old Steven Orrett, of Burlington, with Impaired Operation and Over 80. Orrett is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on September 23, 2025.
  5. And on Monday September 1, at 1 p.m., police also received a report of a possible impaired driver from a concerned member of the public in the area of Bethune Drive in Gravenhurst. Officers located the vehicle on Hastings Drive and subsequently arrested and charged 56-year-old Frank Doran, of Gravenhurst, with Impaired Operation and Over 80. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on September 30, 2025 to answer to his charges.

Drivers from Gravenhurst, Burlington and Mattawa face impaired driving charges after being stopped in south Muskoka the last week of summer.
