BALA MUSEUM CELEBRATES ANNE OF GREEN GABLES THURSDAY LIKE NO JAPANESE FAN CLUB EVER COULD

BALA — If Lucy Maud Montgomery were still alive, she’d have written a touching love story about Anne (with an E) meeting the owners of Bala’s Museum.
Jack Hutton and Linda Jackson would star as themselves in the TV and stage musical.
They might even have appeared somewhere in Stephen Leacock’s Sunshine Sketches of a Small Town.
For that’s Jack and Linda.
And the reality stars are opening their home once more Thursday for the 34th annual celebration of all things Bala and everything Anne of Green Gables.
“Don Edwards is coming with his banjo/ukelele, so we are going to have some fun with a sing-along,” says Jack.
“We are watching the weather with interest. Rain will mean cancelling rides in some antique cars, which folks would have enjoyed.”
Regardless, there will a party like none others each summer with the throw-back fun of a little red-head with not one but two pigtails.
The open house takes place 2-4 p.m. with free mini-tours to see the world’s largest Anne of Green Gables doll house and other highlights.
There will still be free rides around the Moon River neighbourhood in antique cars, cupcakes to enjoy and some musical fun.
You might even hear a little ragtime piano if you coax a certain guy with a red-striped shirt, suspenders and the biggest eyebrows this side Santa Claus. Maybe bigger.
Edwards, who started the annual jazz cruises down the Moon River more than 40 years ago will be coming with his banjo/ukulele to do sing songs with Jack on piano.
Donna Hillyard, who has been Lucy Maud Montgomery every year except once since the museum’s opening in 1992, will also be present.
This may be the museum’s final season (sounds like a certain concert we know).
So Jack and Linda have decided it was time to hold its first open house.
It promises to be a fun two hours.
Join them and you may be in Jack and Linda’s next to last chapter.
