BIFOCALS BACK ON BARGE BY POPULAR DEMAND SUNDAY NIGHT, 7:30 P.M., WITH ‘MUSIC FOR SUMMER’S EVE’ INCLUDIG INCREDIBLE CAROLE KING, BILLY JOEL, BEATLES
GRAVENHURST — Carole King has “written some of the most beautiful music ever,” says Neil Barlow, a cornetist in the Gravenhurst Bifocals Concert Band.
Like “It’s Too Late, Jazzman, You’ve Got A Friend” and “I Feel the Earth Move” … “under my feet.”
You’ll feel your feet move, too, as you tap your toes along to her tunes you know and love along with more than a dozen other songs you’ll love.
Barlow should know, he’s also conducted many bands who play her melodious music.
But it will be his wife, Kim Barlow, who will bring down the baton Sunday night at the Barge for what promises to be another beautiful night of ‘Music for a Summer’s Eve.’

After a long, cold winter, summer has arrived, and the concert Band will be presenting the music of King and several other well known performers on the water June 29, at 7:30 p.m.
With music from Grieg, Prokofieff and John Williams’ Star Wars Saga, to Billy Joel, Neil Diamond and the Beatles, there is sure to be something for everyone.
Including La Comparita — one of the most famous tangos in the world, the Billboard March and a couple of hauntingly lovely tunes like the Flower Drum Song, Lieutenant Kije’s Wedding Suite and the Welsh Folk Fantasy.
Listen and watch the woodwinds, brass and percussion players hit all the high notes with fortes and pianissimo Barlow can coax out of them.
Keep count in four and listen for the sections trading twos and fours as the music swings back and forth between the musicians who have honed their skills over the past 10 months.
The two-dozen members of the band hopes you’ll plan to join them at Gull Lake Park on the Barge for their exciting celebration of music on this special Sunday evening.
Admission is free with a donation collection at intermission.
