GRAVENHURST — Momentum is building fast with a third major partner joining a community fundraiser to create a new community “Health Hub” here.

The Town of Gravenhurst unanimously committed $200,000 this week at council to the project to top up the vacant second floor of the Cottage Family Health Team’s offices on Pineridge Gate adjoining the town hall.

They join the doctors’ group, which is on board with $100,000, and the Rotary Club, which is spear-heading the drive and began fundraising with a $50,000 donation by the service club.

Rotarians have also sought a further $200,000 each from the province and District of Muskoka for phase one.

The town’s contribution is a continuing milestone in efforts to provide more health providers to the town of 12,000 in which half the residents are reportedly without permanent primary care.

Rotarian Eric Daly dropped in on Gravenhurst Mayor Heidi Lorenz today to thank council and reinforce the secured funding as needed.

The first phase of construction will require $750,000 by early next year and a further $1 million in phases two and three to complete for tenants to rent out.
