MUSKOKA CONCERT BAND WEEKEND CONCERTS ARE A HOLIDAY FROLIC WITH FIREFLIES AND FIDDLE TUNES
MUSKOKA — A Holiday Frolic and Whitewater Festival this weekend includes a Ski Run, Fireflies and Fiddle Tunes.
How’s that for an invite to hear the Muskoka Concert Band Saturday and Sunday?
Dance and tap your toes inside away from black flies at their Spring Concerts.
It starts Saturday with their On the Dock: Fireflies and Songs of Summer preview concert at the Bracebridge Library May 31 at 1:30 p.m.
It’s a reflection of summers in Muskoka with a musical journey that includes Whitewater Festival, a western movie-style theme called Chisholm Trail, and a campfire with Owl City’s Fireflies and one of James Curnow’s Fiddle Tunes.
Of course, no concert, or trip to the cottage, would be complete without some Disney movie music so we know you’ll love hearing all of the Disney classics in John Higgins’ Disney at the Movies.
Sunday 2 p.m. Spring Concert Gravenhurst
If you miss that, Holiday Frolic at Trinity United Church in Gravenhurst June 1 at 2 p.m. is their Spring Concert.
Tickets are $20 (children 12 and under are free) and are available at the door (cash only) or by credit card online through Eventbrite by clicking on the following link: TICKETS This year’s Spring Concert is a musical visit to the cottage and all of the things that Muskoka holds as fun activities and entertainment. You’ll hear Holiday Frolic, a fun march in the tradition of summer band concerts, the hauntingly beautiful Remembering Yesterdays by James Stephenson, and two fun pieces about being on the water – Whitewater Festival, and Ski Run.
Memories of quiet summer evenings and times around the campfire are reflected in the delightful song by Owl City about Fireflies and the folk melodies of James Curnow’s Fiddle Tunes that includes Lovely Nancy, a beautiful fiddle ballad, and The Haymakers, a fun, challenging, rollicking dance piece.
For those who are fans of local summer theatre events they have Broadway Spectacular, a collection of great Broadway melodies, and Disney at the Movies, both arranged by John Higgins, as well as a good old-fashioned western tune, Chisholm Trail, for the lovers of classic movies.
