PARRY SOUND-MUSKOKA — Mark Carney had a lot on his mind and plate the opening days of the election campaign.

But he made time and room for Geordie Sabbagh, the local candidate from here.

Sabbagh’s 11-year-old son, Eli, did likewise for the prime minister.

“Clear the way for Parry Sound – Muskoka!”

That was the call backstage at Mark Carney’s rally in Kitchener last Wednesday evening as local Liberal candidate Geordie Sabbagh and his family were escorted through the crowd to a personal meeting with the prime minister and party leader.

In a brief meeting and photo-op Sabbagh said was able to speak to him and tell him about the needs of the people in Parry Sound-Muskoka, says a party release.

“Meeting the prime minister face-to-face was an important step for when the campaign is over and the real work of advocating on behalf of the people of Parry Sound–Muskoka begins,” said Sabbagh.

“The prime minister showed genuine interest and expressed a commitment to working to solve these important issues. This is what we have been missing here for the past number of years – an MP with a seat at the table.”

Sabbagh invited Carney to stop by the riding on his campaign tour of the country and he agreed that it was “a good idea.”

Carney took time with the candidate’s son, Eli, to chat about basketball.

Eli told him he had to miss a hoops game to make the rally in Kitchener.

“It was cool to meet him,” said Eli. “He plays centre.”
